Appointments System

We do not provide a walk-in service. Please make an appointment by:

  • Telephone on 01335 216885
  • Coming to reception and booking in person
  • Following an invitation link that has been sent to you by SMS

The practice offers face to face and telephone appointments. When an appointment is requested our reception team will ask for some brief details of the symptoms or presenting problem. This allows the team to follow signposting guidance provided by our clinicians to offer you the most appropriate appointment or advice.

If you can no longer attend an appointment please inform us as soon as possible.

Parking spaces are on a first come first serve basis. At busy times it is recommended you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment in order to find time to park. There is a pay and display car park next to Lloyds Chemist or one at the leisure centre. Should you park past the St Oswald's Hospital barrier you will need a code to leave, this is found at reception.

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform our reception team if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, the appointment will be marked as 'did not attend'. Patients who persistently do not attend appointments may be removed from the practice list.

Home Visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:00.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls.

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Out of Area Patient

If you are registered as an out of area patient we will be unable to provide you with a home visit. If you have an urgent care need you will need to call NHS 111 and they will put you in touch with a local service (this may be a face to face appointment with a local healthcare professional or a home visit where necessary).

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure where they feel one is required. This chaperone may be a family member or friend. On occasions you may prefer a formal chaperone to be present, i.e. a trained member of staff. Wherever possible we would ask you to make this request at the time of booking your appointment

Your healthcare professional may also require a chaperone to be present for certain consultations in accordance with our chaperone policy.

To discuss a referral being made for you by one of our GPs please contact our medical administration team on 01335 216885 (option 4).

Most referrals are made via the NHS e-Referral service. It is very important that patients keep us informed of their current contact details so that appointment details are sent to the correct place. Click here to visit the e-Referral service website.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments. To enable this service, please provide your mobile telephone number.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.

Training Practice

Ashbourne Medical Practice is a proud training practice, accredited by Health Education England – East Midlands. We are accredited for the training of General Practice Specialty Registrars. GP Registrars are fully qualified doctors who have chosen to specialise in general practice.

GP Registrars are valuable additions to our team, and we are confident that they provide our patients with modern, effective and caring treatment.

Upon making an appointment, the reception team will inform you if you are due to see a GP Registrar.

Consultations with GP Registrars are sometimes video recorded for training purposes. The recording will only take place if you give your consent; there is no obligation for you to do so. You may ask for the recording to be deleted if you change your mind during or following the consultation. The video will be reviewed only by the GP Registrar and their supervising GP Trainer, and once viewed will be deleted shortly afterwards.
